Lip Masque with Sapogel Q

Did you know that your lips are prominent feature on your face? Whenever you are having a face to face conversation, the focus will subconsciously (or consciously for some people) will go to the lips! Now I think I made you self conscious about your lips!

Living in a tropical country, our bodies get dehydrated easily if we fail to drink ample amount of liquids. I went through a phase where I had the perimeter of my lips peeling. It was annoying painful and more often than not, feeling embarrassed with peeling and chapped lips. I used petroleum jelly on my lips back then before discovering the world of natural skincare. It was sticky and I always felt my lips were swollen like. I wish I had felt more sexy like Angelina Jolie, but unfortunately not for me.

Fast forward in time, when I discovered the beauty of natural skincare and acquired the knowledge and skills to create my own natural skincare, it was like opening a pandora box! Before I get carried away, let’s focus on what I want to share with you today.

I learned that chapped and peeling lips are a sign of dehydration as well as a reaction to saliva for some of us. Using lip balm alone did help but the recurrence timing was short which did not give ample time for my lips to heal. I wanted something that stays on for many hours that will provide an occlusive protection and hydrate the lips at the same time. Seems like a tall order until I discovered Sapogel Q.

Sapogel Q is made of glycerin, aqua, quillaja saponaria wood extract, saponaria officianalis (soapwort) leaf/root extract. Soapwort itself has cleansing abilities that can create good lather and is gentle on the skin. However, as a component in Sapogel Q, it helps the final product to gently wash off the skin without creating lather.

The lip area is a sensitive area so you might want to keep the formula simple but effective. I wanted a lip masque that is able glide on the lips effortlessly as I do not want to drag the lip skin and cause more damage. Pracaxi oil is known for its uses for stretch marks, dry skin and many more. It acts as an excellent emollient on the skin. Coconut oil is another oil to consider. However if you do not prefer its natural scent, you can use another version of coconut oil which is the fractionated coconut oil. It carries no scent and has a long spread ability which is perfect to make a lip masque. For my lip masque, I have chosen to use fractionated coconut oil, and tsubaki oil. Tsubaki oil also known as Camellia oil has a high content of Vitamin E. It helps retain moisture on skin and lips which minimises fine lines around the lip area.

Peeling and chapped lips can sometimes expose the skin surface to bacteria infestation if not treated immediately. Keeping this in mind, I chose geranium essential oil as it has antibacterial and antiseptic properties which is just perfect. It also carries a sweet taste and this makes the application of the lip masque even more appealing.

I designed this lip masque to be applied on the lips at night just before going to bed. The sweet sensation and taste provides a happy, content feeling that lulls you to sleep. You can use this lip masques nightly fir the first week and then twice or thrice in a week as and when needed.

You can replace the oils to your preference or what you can buy at your convenient stores or suppliers. A word of caution, do keep the use of essential oil low and ensure that they do not contain constituents that can cause phytotoxicity.
